Jet Lag Zapped

Excerpt from Doctors Book of Home Remedies -
These days long distance flying need not be a problem when you arrive at your destination. "Jet lag affects everyone differently, but the most common symptoms include fatigue, sleep disturbances and insomnia, mild depression or irritability, gastrointestinal distress and headaches," says Dr. Maria Simonson.
"Travelling from east to west is usually easier to adjust to than travel from west to east.......," says Dr. Suzan E. Jaffe. Here are some useful tips to take on your next trip abroad:
Take a coffee break - If travelling west to east, a single cup of caffeine at breakfast in your new location may help you stay alert. "Restrict coffee after lunchtime, or you may end up over-stimulated, jittery and wide awake in the middle of the night." says Dr. Jaffe.
Let the Sun Shine in - Exposure to light at the new destination helps convince your body clock that you truly are on a new time schedule," says Dr. M.L. Moline. "Exposure early in the day is best and restrict sunlight after 4pm," says Dr. Jaffe.
Snack for your stomach's sake - Take time to adapt to the new nutrition. "....Until your gastrointestinal system has a chance to adjust, eat lightly and stick to foods that you are used to," says Dr. Jaffe.
Work it out - If it's daytime when you land, get some light outdoor exercise, walking or jogging.
Snap up a nap - Limit daytime snoozes to no longer than 1.5 hours and don't nap after 5.00 pm..." advised Dr. Simonson.
Give alcohol a rest - "Alcohol depresses your central nervous system and interferes with sleep patterns. It may help you fall asleep, but you'll wake up feeling lousy, because the drug effect still lingers," says Dr. Jaffe. "Don't drink on the flight or on the first day after you arrive."

Mannatech Inc. scientists have developed their glyconutritional products including Manna C which contains vitamin C and helps stop jet lag as well as the essential glyconutrients.
